Mood of the Courtroom; Day 4

Writer's picture: Salinas Valley GazetteSalinas Valley Gazette

The confusion in the courtroom rises due to the defense and prosecution lawyers having opposing opinions on the statements given. The lawyers call out multiple sidebars and objections as the jury frantically try to write the witness's answers. Everyone waits for a prosecution lawyer to rephrase her question after a series of objections were shouted. Witness Slim Johnson (Fiona) and Defense Lawyer Victoria are called to the stand after the examination of Candy Rogers (Joel). After a flow of questions from the defense side, the prosecution requests a cross-examination. The two sides repeatedly fall into a debate after witnesses misspeak or get nervous. Prosecution lawyers try to put answers into the witness’ mouths but the defense won’t allow it. Multiple Defense lawyers jump to their feet, aggressively yelling out objections. The trial continues to move speedily as the lawyers question one witnesses after another.
