Today, September 26, 1937, the trial against Mr. George Milton began. The prosecution began by stating that they intend to prove that Mr. Milton is guilty of murder in the the first degree. To start, they mentioned that when Mr. George Milton and Mr. Lennie Small went to work on the ranch, Mr. Tyler noticed that Mr. Milton had power over Mr. Small. In the boss’s eyes, Mr. Milton seemed to control Mr. Small. Some examples of this were when Mr. Milton took Mr. Small’s money and talked for him. The prosecution claimed that Mr. Milton had wanted to get rid of Mr. Small for a long time and said that he could get along better without him around. So, Mr. Milton took a gun from a worker on the ranch to go and find Mr. Small and kill him. When he found Mr. Small, he shot him in a place he knew would kill him, right in the back of the head. After the other workers on the ranch found them, Mr. Milton was standing right next to the dead body of Mr. Small. If Mr. Milton really was Mr. Small’s best friend, he would have been sad about this, but he actually went and got a drink with another worker friend. Mr. Small should have had justice in a court instead of Mr. Milton deciding to kill him. The defense might try to argue that Mr. Milton killed Mr. Small to save him from getting tortured and having a really hard life, but according to the prosecution, that is far from accurate. They say Mr. Milton killed Mr. Small in cold blood. After the prosecution delivered these opening statements, the courtroom was silent. Everyone was thinking about the points that were made. The lead prosecution delivered many good points that are very relevant to the case and will definitely be discussed as the trial against Mr. George Milton continues.
