Following John Tyler today in the courtroom, Carlson Smith was called to stand. Mr. Smith was a working hand on the ranch and has been there for two years. Previously, he was the owner of a fish tool making company. He was drafted by the U.S. government into WWI, but didn’t serve as a soldier, he opted to stay home considering he was a bit overweight at the time. He then started working at a weapon factory manufacturing guns for war with no prior experience in the field. He ended up receiving his lugar, a toggle-locked recoil-operated semi-automatic pistol, from his job as a gift for being a great worker. At the ranch, he kept his gun in a bag under his bed. He legally owned this gun. He mentioned that it was possible that the gun was taken, although he hadn’t given anyone consent to touch it. The last time that he used it was when he shot Mr. Candy Rogers dog, 3 days prior to the death of Lennie small. Mr. George Milton and him had only interacted a few times. Mr. Smith had reason to believe Lennie had an intellectual disability. Smith also mentioned Mr. Curley Tyler’s undeniable enragement with Lennie just after the death of Tyler’s wife, Tyler claimed he had an intent to kill Mr. Small. He also noticed that Mr. Milton had split up with the rest of the guys as the started a search party for Mr. Small. When he first noticed his gun was missing, he thought Mr. Small had taken it after the death of Tyler's wife. But as evidence piled up, such as Mr. Milton’s treatment of Mr. Small, he began to believe Mr. Milton was the one who had taken the gun.
